The Spanish octopus — so unassumingly named on the menu — anchors a plate of striking contrasts. The snow-white plate first is dramatically brushed with a jet-black squid ink vinaigrette followed by a tangle of two octopus tentacles, fried fingerling potatoes, dehydrated kalamata olives, pimentón oil (smoked paprika-infused oil) and fresh watercress. “Octopus is one of my favorite things,” VanHeulen said. “It really speaks to the kinds of creative showstopping dishes that I love to make.”

Edible seeds can be added in any food item as an ingredient or a garnish. It can be added in dosa batter or while preparing the chapathi dough. A handful of these seeds could be sprinkled on top of a bowl of fresh salad as well. One can quench the hunger pangs by snacking on roasted or sprout seeds. Pumpkin and flax seeds can prevent obesity and are excellent to maintain the health of heart. Chia seeds can be added in salads and in juice or shakes by soaking them in water. It can also be added in cakes instead of eggs, as chia seeds are an excellent binding agent.

The giant pumpkin will stay on display through Halloween, while the squash’s precious seeds are sent around the world to growers who want to try their hand at giant-pumpkin growing.

Add a splash of water if it looks like it might. Meanwhile, wash, peel and trim the base of the Brussels sprouts. Cut them in half through the root, then into thin shreds, discarding the stalk base. Wash and finely shred 8-10 sage leaves, depending on size. Preheat oven to 210˚C/Gas Mark 6.
