Geddes quickly discovered that pumpkins, like children, grow up so fast. He also discovered he was good at growing them, and now, after the annual competition last weekend at the Deerfield Fair, Geddes holds the record for growing the heaviest pumpkin in North American history.
Heirloom tomatoes ($12) — when they were still in season, natch — arrived with a cool puddle of herbed ricotta and a bright tomatillo puree, a tart contrast to the sweet summer fruit. More recently, grilled figs ($14) have made an appearance in an earthy and fragrant tangle alongside beets, hazelnuts and sorrel with a touch of citrusy yuzu froth.

Chia seeds are available in black and brown colours. Nutrition experts say that chia seeds contain omega 3 fatty acids 8 times more than what is found in fatty fishes like sardines and mackerels. Similarly it has 5 times more calcium than found in milk, and 3 times more iron than in spinach.
Sunflower kernels can be roasted with or without the shell on, and are most commonly eaten after removing the shell. “Shells have a lot of fiber and can be eaten, but are very hard, and if not chewed well may harm the digestive tract,” Yeung says.
